My Journey from Injury to Recovery: How a Volleyball Game Changed Everything

Life has a way of flipping everything upside down in a matter of seconds, and I experienced that firsthand. After 25 years as a massage therapist, I thought I had seen and experienced it all—until one fateful day during a volleyball scrimmage.

It was April 2022, and I was coaching my daughter’s volleyball team, excited to be on the sidelines supporting her and the girls. In a split second, everything changed. A parent accidentally tripped me, sending me into a hard fall. The pain was immediate and intense, but with my experience in injury prevention and balance, I brushed it off as a minor sprain.

Little did I know, I was wrong.

Fast forward 18 months, and the pain still hadn’t subsided. Something was clearly wrong. After enduring persistent discomfort and struggling to use my wrist, I finally sought the advice of my chiropractor, who uttered the words I didn’t want to hear: “You need to see an orthopedic surgeon.”

The diagnosis hit me like a ton of bricks—I had a torn ligament in my wrist. As a massage therapist, my hands were my lifeline, and I was terrified that my career might be in jeopardy.

During the surgery, my doctor discovered not one but two torn ligaments. On top of that, my wrist had no cartilage left, leaving the bones unprotected. He had to remove one of the bones and stabilize my wrist with screws. At that moment, I had no idea what the future would hold. Would I ever be able to massage again? Would I lose the career I had built over decades?

The recovery was long and challenging. It took nearly four months before I regained some use of my hands. The range of motion in my wrist is still limited, but giving up was never an option. Over my 25-year career, I’ve worked more than 20,000 hours, using my hands to help people feel better. I wasn’t ready to stop.

As I healed, a new door opened for me. Though my hands weren’t as strong as they used to be, my mind was brimming with knowledge and experience. That’s when I felt guided to start sharing what I’ve learned through Instagram. It took time to build the courage to put myself out there, but now I’m here, ready to pass on the tips, techniques, and wisdom I’ve gained over decades in the massage therapy field.

This experience taught me that our bodies are designed to heal—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. No matter the challenge, we have the ability to persevere and recover. Now, I’m on a mission to help others experience that same healing.

Join me on this journey as I share my story, my tools, and my methods for feeling better in everyday life. Together, we’ll explore the incredible power of the human body and how simple techniques can make a world of difference.

From that volleyball injury to nearly losing the use of my hands, my journey has shown me the importance of perseverance and the body’s innate ability to heal.
